    Mount Care

HOW TO KEEP YOUR MOUNT LOOKING GREAT

First and foremost, never hang your mount over a fireplace, wood stove, or any other heating unit. Dry heat is the worst thing for a mount, heat is a big no-no. “Heat dries out the hide of a mounted animal, which causes it to shrink and causes the hair to become dry and brittle, making the animal appear older than it actually is.
Keep your mounts away from direct sunlight. The UV rays can fade the hide of your buck and its’ rack making it appear old and dingy. UV rays can make the hide brittle and can make it shrink.
Never hang your mount in a moist damp area. Such as a outside building or basement Moisture can create mold and all kinds of problems for a mount that should remain dry at all times.
When you hang your new mount on the wall, realize it isn’t maintenance free. The easiest way to keep your mount looking great is to regularly dust it.
To keep the eyes dust free, use a Q-tip and Windex. Use as little Windex as possible. Window cleaner can be used on the nose to keep it bright and shiny.
To keep dust off the hair or feathers of your mount, use a rag. Never go against the grain of the hair. This can damage the hair and create tufts of hair to stand up which doesn’t look good. If the mount is extremely dusty you can dust it with corn mill and dust it off or blow-dry it off, with no heat. The antlers on deer heads can be wiped down to help them maintain their shine.
If at any point your mount gets damaged, or broken, contact your taxidermist. It can possibly be fixed for a small fee.
